You probably have a few questions, so we’ve prepared the answers!

WHAT SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR CREATING A CORKBOARD – SELF ADHESIVE CORK ROLL OR SHEETS?

It all depends on the size of the corkboard you’re planning to make. If it’s a larger one, we definitely recommend a roll. This gives you a seamless, large surface without visible joins.

On the other hand, if you’re going for a smaller corkboard, sheets are the way to go. Joins aren’t an issue with smaller areas, and the sheets are more convenient to install in such cases.

WHAT THICKNESS OF SELF-ADHESIVE CORK SHOULD I CHOOSE FOR A CORKBOARD?

Thicknesses between 5 mm and 10 mm are perfect. Push pins hold securely, whereas thinner cork won’t be able to support them properly. Think of it as an investment – it’s better to get it right the first time than deal with frustrating fixes later.

One more important tip: use a fibreboard or cork sheet as the base for your corkboard. Both options provide a stable surface for natural cork.

HOW TO APPLY AN 8MM CORK ROLL?

It’s simple, but here are a few tips to make it even easier:

  1. Prepare the surface – Thoroughly clean and dry it. This is crucial because the self-adhesive layer works best on smooth, flat, clean, and dust-free surfaces (e.g., plasterboard or furniture boards).

  2. Start sticking – Don’t remove the entire protective layer at once. Do it gradually, piece by piece. Start at one end of the roll and slowly peel off the protective layer, exposing the adhesive side bit by bit.

  3. Press down each section firmly – Use a wallpaper roller or simply your hand to ensure each part of the cork roll is securely stuck.

  4. P.S. If you’re covering a large area, consider asking someone for help. It’s not essential, but an extra pair of hands can always make the job easier!

ARE CORK ROLLS SUITABLE AS UNDERLAY FOR FLOORING?

We don’t recommend using self-adhesive cork rolls as flooring underlay. Instead, we offer excellent floor underlays specifically designed for this purpose, with the right density and durability.

Remember those store-bought boards that never quite fit your wall? With a cork roll, you can customise the size to suit your needs, covering large areas with ease. Got a narrow, long strip above your desk? Or maybe an entire wall to fill? It’s up to you how much natural cork you need, and it’s easy to cut to size with a knife for natural cork.

Another great thing is the installation. It doesn’t take hours (or even a whole day), and you can forget about nails, drilling, and the mess. Just unroll, stick, and you’re done. Even if you thought you didn’t have a knack for this kind of thing, you’ll do it like a pro.

And finally, by choosing natural cork, you’re doing something good for yourself and the planet. When you think of sustainability, it might feel like a distant concept that’s hard to apply to everyday life. But natural cork is different. It’s a renewable material – cork oak trees live for over 200 years, and their bark regenerates every 9-12 years. No trees are cut down! You become part of this natural cycle and set a great example. It’s a simple choice with big benefits, surrounding yourself with natural materials that are safe and healthy.
