WHAT CAN I USE 0.8 TO 4 MM THICK CORK ROLLS FOR?
The thinnest cork rolls (0.8 mm) are great for craft projects, DIY hobbies, adding a finish to furniture, creating coasters, and even wall art.
Thicker cork (2–4 mm) works well as a decorative layer for walls or boards. They’re not designed for pinning but are ideal as anti-slip mats or seals.
WHAT’S BETTER FOR ME – CORK ROLL OR CORK SHEET?
Cork roll is perfect for larger projects because it provides a seamless, continuous surface. Be sure to unroll and flatten it for a few hours before use.
Cork sheets are great for smaller jobs, and they don’t need to be flattened like rolls do.
DO YOU SELL SELF-ADHESIVE CORK FOR WALLS?
Yes, we offer self-adhesive cork rolls, which makes installation much simpler.
IS CORK ROLL A GOOD MATERIAL FOR MAKING A CORKBOARD?
Yes, but if you’re making a functional corkboard, we suggest using cork that’s between 5 and 10 mm thick.
WHAT MATERIAL CAN I COMBINE WITH 3MM CORK?
Thin cork is often paired with softboard, foam board, or cardboard.
HOW CAN I CUT CORK ACCURATELY?
Cork rolls can be cut using everyday tools like a knife or scissors, depending on the thickness. For thicker cork, a sharp blade is recommended for clean cuts. Templates can help when making precise designs or gaskets.
CAN YOU PAINT CORK ROLLS?
Yes, cork rolls can be painted to suit your home décor. We recommend using our special cork paints.
WHY DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATISE CORK BEFORE INSTALLING?
It’s crucial to allow cork to acclimatise for 72 hours before installing, so it can adjust to the temperature and humidity of the room. This reduces the risk of the cork warping or peeling off the wall.
HOW SHOULD I INSTALL 3MM CORK ONTO THE WALL?
We suggest using a contact adhesive like Wakol D-3540.
Here’s how to do it:
- Prepare the wall: Make sure the surface is clean, dry, and flat.
- Apply adhesive: Spread Wakol D-3540 adhesive evenly on both the cork and the wall, using a roller or brush. Use around 150-250 g/m² of adhesive. A 0.8 kg tin covers approximately 4 m², while 2.5 kg covers around 12.5 m².
- Wait: Allow the adhesive to turn transparent before applying the cork to the wall.
- Install: Press the cork roll carefully onto the wall, ensuring the layout is planned beforehand. The adhesive will dry fully in 24 hours.
WILL CORK ROLLS WORK ON UNEVEN WALLS?
We do not recommend using cork rolls on uneven walls. For the best results, make sure the surface is smooth and clean.
IS IT EASY TO CLEAN CORK?
Cleaning cork is simple – just wipe it with a damp cloth or a duster. Its anti-static nature also repels dust, keeping maintenance to a minimum.
CAN I USE CORK IN BATHROOMS OR KITCHENS?
Cork works well in rooms where humidity stays between 40 and 60%. However, don’t expose cork to standing water, as it can weaken the material over time.
HOW CAN I PROTECT NATURAL CORK?
To safeguard your cork, we recommend using protective coatings like waxes, varnishes, or oils. For wall cork, you can use our cork care wax. You can also find appropriate varnishes at most hardware stores.
CAN I ORDER CUSTOM-SIZED CORK ROLLS?
Yes, you can! Just contact us via email, and we’ll help you select the perfect size and thickness for your needs.
