You probably have a few questions, so we’ve prepared the answers for you!
WHAT WINES ARE SELO1 AND SELO2 STOPPERS BEST FOR?
SELO1 and SELO2 stoppers are perfect for still wines. If you have wines that don’t require long ageing, these stoppers are your best choice. They work especially well with both white and red (young) wines.
WHAT MATERIAL IS THE SELO WINE CORK STOPPER MADE OF?
SELO stoppers are made from pieces of natural cork, harvested from the bark of the cork oak tree. It’s a renewable and environmentally friendly material. The natural cork used in the production of these stoppers is completely safe for wine and contains no recycled materials or GMOs.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE STOPPERS?
Both models, SELO1 and SELO2, have dimensions of 44 × 24 mm.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SELO1 AND SELO2 MODELS?
At first glance, the main difference is in their appearance. SELO1 is more cylindrical with straight sides, while SELO2 has more rounded edges at the top and bottom.
SELO1 and SELO2 also differ in a few technical aspects:
- SELO1 has the ability to absorb up to 30%, while SELO2 can absorb up to 40%. Despite this small difference, both models have a low absorption rate. This ensures excellent protection for the wine, preserving its taste.
- SELO1 ensures bottle sealing at a pressure of up to 2.5 bar, while SELO2 maintains a seal up to 1.5 bar. These pressure levels are ideal for still wines, which do not have bubbles or high pressure in the bottle.
- SELO1 releases slightly less TCA (1.5 ng/L) than SELO2 (≤ 2.0 ng/L). However, for still wines that are not stored for long periods, this small difference in TCA release doesn’t have a significant impact.
WHAT IS TCA, AND WHY DOES IT MATTER FOR WINE STOPPERS?
TCA (trichloroanisole) is a compound that sometimes causes wine to develop a "corked" taste. It’s completely safe for health, but it can make the wine take on a slight cork flavour. The rule is simple – the lower the TCA level in the stopper, the less risk of the wine absorbing that taste. All our wine stoppers are carefully checked for TCA presence.
IS THE SELO BOTTLE CORK SUITABLE FOR SPARKLING WINES?
IS NATURAL WINE CORK STOPPER BETTER THAN PLASTIC STOPPERS FOR WINE?
Absolutely! Natural cork allows the wine to breathe slightly, helping it to develop, mature, and gain a fuller flavour. Plastic stoppers completely block air flow. If you want your wine to taste its best, natural cork is the better choice.
Moreover, natural cork doesn’t negatively impact your health. It doesn’t introduce chemicals into the wine, which can sometimes happen with plastic stoppers.
HOW SHOULD WINE BOTTLES WITH NATURAL CORK BE STORED?
It’s best to store them horizontally to keep the cork moist and prevent it from drying out. Ideally, wine should be kept in a cool, dark place at a temperature between 10 and 15°C. Additionally, the humidity should be around 70%. This helps to keep natural cork in good condition for a long time.
DO NATURAL WINE CORKS ROT?
Natural cork doesn’t rot – it has antibacterial properties and is resistant to moisture.
DO WINE CORKS CRUMBLE IN THE BOTTLE OVER TIME?
No, natural cork doesn’t crumble. It’s flexible and seals the bottle perfectly, allowing it to maintain its properties for a long time.
To ensure the best conditions, remember to store bottles horizontally – this keeps the cork moist by staying in contact with the wine, preventing it from drying out and crumbling.
Natural cork brings out the best in wine. Unlike plastic, which can spoil the flavour and doesn’t allow it to breathe, cork cares for the wine like a personal guardian. That’s why the SELO model is a perfect choice – practical and budget-friendly.
#1 AESTHETICS AND ELEGANCE
Natural cork adds a unique character to every wine bottle! Compared to synthetic stoppers, natural cork highlights the nobility of the bottle.
Plastic wine stoppers may be cheaper, but they lack the elegant appearance that natural cork provides. Instead of highlighting the unique character of the wine, they make the bottle look more ordinary and mass-produced. They don’t add the prestige that’s an important factor for higher-end wines.
When you open a bottle of wine among friends, everyone notices the beautiful natural cork – it’s those small details that make a big difference.
#2 TRADITION AND A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE
Natural cork is not just a bottle closure; it’s an essential part of the wine-tasting ritual. When you open a bottle with natural cork, you immediately connect with centuries of winemaking tradition. The moment of pulling the cork – the gentle creak of the corkscrew, followed by the distinctive pop – creates a special atmosphere.
It’s a small yet significant detail that turns every tasting into a unique ritual, marking the beginning of a journey into the depths of flavours and aromas.
#3 CORK PRODUCTION SUPPORTS THE PLANET
When you choose natural cork, you become part of something bigger. Cork production is environmentally friendly and supports local ecosystems in Mediterranean countries like Portugal and Spain! Many people don’t realize that harvesting natural cork doesn’t require cutting down trees – quite the opposite! It’s a sustainable process that allows cork forests to regenerate.
Harvesting natural cork also has a huge impact on local communities and economies in Mediterranean countries, especially in regions where cork oak trees grow. It’s not just a source of income for many families, but also a way to preserve traditional crafts and pass down knowledge from generation to generation.
By enjoying your favourite wine, you’re not only ensuring its quality, but also supporting environmental protection. It’s a small step for you, but a giant leap for our planet!
#4 TOP QUALITY AND SAFETY
Our stoppers are made from larger granules of natural cork, ensuring excellent quality and durability. What sets them apart from other wine stoppers is the absence of recycled materials and genetically modified organisms (GMO). You can be confident that by choosing natural cork, you’re providing your wine with the purest conditions. In turn, you get the assurance that your wine will retain its authentic flavour and aroma, without the risk of chemical tastes that cheaper closures might introduce.
The dimensions of the cork are designed to fit perfectly into the bottle, providing maximum sealing. This ensures the wine is well protected, with no risk of too much air entering the bottle.
#5 AN ECONOMICAL OPTION
The SELO models are a smart way to save without compromising. You don’t have to spend a fortune on expensive “premium” stoppers to enjoy natural cork. Why? Paying 10 times more doesn’t always mean you’re getting 10 times the value. SELO stoppers offer the perfect balance of quality and price, providing excellent sealing and preserving the wine’s flavour and aroma. You get a natural cork without unnecessary extras, so you can enjoy your wine without overpaying.
SELO offers quality that won’t strain your budget, while keeping your wine well protected. Two in one – an excellent cork at a reasonable price! You don’t have to worry about oxidation or loss of wine quality just because you didn’t buy the most expensive, top-tier stoppers.
#6 DOESN’T CRUMBLE
There’s nothing worse than a crumbling stopper that ruins the entire wine experience… With natural cork, you can relax! Its flexible structure makes it resistant to damage. You don’t have to worry about anything breaking when opening the bottle.
Unlike cheaper corks that can crumble and leave unwanted bits in the wine, our stoppers guarantee an easy and clean opening every time. This way, you can enjoy the full flavour and aroma of your wine every time, without worrying about cork pieces falling into your glass. It means less stress and more joy in your wine-tasting experience.
