You probably have a few questions, so here are the answers!
WHICH WINES WORK BEST WITH SELO1 AND SELO2 STOPPERS?
The SELO1 and SELO2 stoppers are ideal for still wines. If your wines don’t require extended aging, these stoppers are your go-to. They perform particularly well with both white and red (younger) wines.
WHAT ARE SELO STOPPERS MADE FROM?
SELO stoppers are crafted from pieces of natural cork, sourced from the bark of the cork oak tree. It’s a renewable, eco-friendly material. The natural cork used in these stoppers is completely safe for wine and contains no recycled materials or GMOs.
WHAT SIZE ARE THE STOPPERS?
Both SELO1 and SELO2 models measure 44 × 24 mm.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES SELO1 FROM SELO2?
Visually, their main difference is in shape. SELO1 is cylindrical with straight sides, while SELO2 features rounded edges at both the top and bottom.
They also differ in technical specifications:
- SELO1 absorbs up to 30%, while SELO2 absorbs up to 40%. Despite this small variation, both offer low absorption rates, ensuring your wine is well-protected, and its taste remains intact.
- SELO1 seals bottles up to 2.5 bar pressure, while SELO2 works up to 1.5 bar. These pressure thresholds are perfect for still wines, which don’t contain bubbles or high pressure.
- SELO1 has slightly lower TCA release (1.5 ng/L) compared to SELO2 (≤ 2.0 ng/L). But for wines not stored long-term, this minimal difference in TCA release isn’t very impactful.
WHAT IS TCA, AND WHY DOES IT MATTER FOR WINE STOPPERS?
TCA (trichloroanisole) is a chemical that occasionally gives wine a "corked" taste. Although harmless to health, it can alter the wine’s flavour slightly. The rule is simple – the lower the TCA levels, the less likely the wine will take on this taste. All of our stoppers are thoroughly tested for TCA.
CAN SELO STOPPERS BE USED FOR SPARKLING WINES?
IS A NATURAL CORK STOPPER BETTER THAN A PLASTIC ONE FOR WINE?
Definitely! Natural cork allows wine to breathe, aiding its development and helping it mature with a fuller flavour. Plastic stoppers completely block air flow. If you want your wine to reach its full potential, natural cork is the way to go.
Furthermore, natural cork doesn’t pose any health risks. It won’t introduce chemicals into the wine, which can sometimes happen with plastic alternatives.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO STORE WINE BOTTLES WITH NATURAL CORK?
Storing them horizontally is ideal to keep the cork moist and prevent it from drying out. The wine should also be kept in a cool, dark place, ideally between 10 and 15°C. Maintaining a humidity level of around 70% will help preserve the cork’s condition for longer.
DO NATURAL CORKS ROT?
Natural cork doesn’t rot – it’s resistant to moisture and has antibacterial properties.
DOES NATURAL CORK STOPPER CRUMBLE INSIDE THE BOTTLE?
No, natural cork won’t crumble. It’s flexible, sealing the bottle effectively and maintaining its integrity for a long time.
To maintain the best conditions, remember to store bottles horizontally – this keeps the cork moist by keeping it in contact with the wine, preventing it from drying out and falling apart.
Natural cork takes great care of your wine. Unlike plastic, which can affect its taste and restricts airflow, cork protects the wine like a personal caretaker. That’s why the SELO model is the ideal solution – practical and affordable.
#1 ELEGANCE AND STYLE
Natural cork enhances the character of every wine bottle! Unlike synthetic stoppers, cork gives the bottle a refined, noble touch.
Although plastic stoppers are cheaper, they lack the sophistication that natural cork provides. Instead of elevating the wine’s uniqueness, they make the bottle appear more generic and mass-produced. They don’t add the sense of prestige, which is crucial for higher-end wines.
When you open a bottle of wine with friends, everyone will notice the fine natural cork – those little touches make a big impact.
#2 TRADITION AND A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE
Natural cork is more than just a stopper; it’s an integral part of the wine-drinking experience. Opening a corked bottle connects you with centuries of winemaking tradition. The gentle creak of the corkscrew followed by the satisfying pop creates a unique atmosphere.
This seemingly small detail turns every tasting into a special moment, marking the start of a journey into flavour and aroma exploration.
#3 CORK PRODUCTION HELPS THE ENVIRONMENT
Choosing natural cork means you’re contributing to something bigger. Cork production is eco-friendly and helps support local ecosystems in Mediterranean countries like Portugal and Spain. What many people don’t know is that harvesting natural cork doesn’t involve cutting down trees – in fact, it promotes forest regeneration.
Harvesting cork also greatly impacts local communities and economies in Mediterranean regions, especially where cork oak trees flourish. It’s a vital source of income for many families, as well as a way to preserve traditional skills, passed down through generations.
By enjoying your favourite wine, you’re not only ensuring its quality, but also supporting environmental conservation. It’s a small step for you, but a huge leap for our planet!
#4 SUPERIOR QUALITY AND SAFETY
Our stoppers are made from larger granules of natural cork, ensuring durability and high quality. What sets them apart from other stoppers is the absence of recycled materials and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Choosing natural cork ensures that your wine is kept in the best possible conditions, free from chemical contaminants that cheaper stoppers may introduce.
The stopper’s dimensions are tailored to perfectly fit the bottle, providing optimal sealing. This guarantees that your wine remains well-preserved without the risk of excess air getting into the bottle.
#5 A COST-EFFECTIVE SOLUTION
The SELO stoppers are a clever way to save money without sacrificing quality. You don’t have to spend a fortune on premium stoppers to enjoy the benefits of natural cork. Why pay ten times more when you’re not getting ten times the value? SELO stoppers provide the ideal balance of price and quality, sealing the wine effectively and preserving its flavour and aroma. You get natural cork without unnecessary add-ons, allowing you to enjoy your wine without overspending.
SELO offers high-quality corks at an affordable price, keeping your wine well-protected. It’s the best of both worlds – a quality cork that doesn’t break the bank! You won’t have to worry about oxidation or compromised wine quality just because you didn’t opt for the most expensive stoppers.
#6 DOESN’T CRUMBLE
Nothing ruins the wine experience quite like a crumbling stopper. But with natural cork, you don’t have to worry! Its flexible structure makes it resistant to breakage. You can open your bottle with ease, knowing nothing will fall apart.
Unlike cheaper stoppers that can crumble and leave cork particles in your wine, our stoppers ensure a clean and smooth opening every time. You’ll enjoy the full flavour and aroma of your wine without worrying about any bits ending up in your glass. This means less stress and more enjoyment during your wine-tasting experience.
