Got some queries? Here are the answers to the most common ones!
WHICH WINES CAN USE THE UNIQ SERIES STOPPERS?
These cork stoppers are suitable for all types of still wine. They are made from smaller pieces of natural cork, which enables a perfect fit within the bottleneck, offering a great seal and extending the wine’s freshness.
HOW DO UNIQ WINE STOPPERS DIFFER?
The cork stoppers vary slightly based on the cork granules they are composed of. While each model presents a distinct structure, the visual differences are minimal.
In terms of technical specifications, the UNIQ2 model can absorb up to 30% moisture, while UNIQ3, UNIQ4, and UNIQ5 stoppers absorb up to 25%.
Regarding TCA, UNIQ2 has a level of up to 1.5 ng/L, whereas UNIQ3, UNIQ4, and UNIQ5 models are at 0.9 ng/L.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE UNIQ CORK STOPPER FOR STILL WINE?
All UNIQ stoppers measure 44 × 24 mm.
CAN THESE STOPPERS BE USED FOR SPARKLING WINES?
No, we recommend our EXPO and VEGA models for sparkling wines.
HOW MUCH TCA IS PRESENT IN THESE STOPPERS?
For the UNIQ2 model, the TCA content is up to 1.5 ng/L, while in UNIQ3, UNIQ4, and UNIQ5, it remains at 0.9 ng/L. These levels are much lower than what is found in mass-produced stoppers.
WHAT IS TCA EXACTLY?
TCA, or trichloroanisole, is a compound responsible for the "corked" flavour that sometimes develops in wine. However, it's still safe to drink, as TCA only alters the aroma and flavour, not the wine's safety.
The lower the TCA level, the less likely your wine will be affected. Opting for stoppers with minimal TCA content is a great way to keep your wine’s aroma unspoiled.
We rigorously test all our cork stoppers for low TCA content.
IS NATURAL CORK STOPPER FOR STILL WINE SAFE FOR HEALTH?
Yes, natural cork is a safe and healthy closure. As a natural material sourced from the cork oak’s bark, it doesn’t release harmful substances.
Additionally, natural cork acts as a barrier, protecting your wine from contaminants like microorganisms and dust, ensuring the wine stays fresh and untainted throughout storage.
HOW SHOULD WINE BE STORED WITH CORK STOPPERS?
Here are some useful tips:
- Store bottles horizontally – keeping the cork moist prevents it from drying out, ensuring a tight seal.
- Store in a cool, dark place – an ideal temperature range is 10-15°C. Consistent temperature is crucial for preserving the wine.
- Maintain the right humidity – around 70% humidity is ideal for storage conditions.
ARE CORK STOPPERS HARD TO REMOVE?
Cork stoppers may need a bit more effort compared to synthetic ones, but it’s a small trade-off.
Since natural cork offers a better seal than plastic stoppers, a good corkscrew makes opening the bottle smooth and easy.
DOES NATURAL CORK ALTER THE WINE’S COLOUR?
No, natural cork doesn’t affect the wine’s colour. Its role is primarily to seal the bottle and control minimal airflow. The cork material itself doesn’t influence the colour.
Changes in wine colour are generally due to natural aging processes like oxidation.
IS NATURAL CORK HYPOALLERGENIC?
Yes, natural cork is hypoallergenic. Unlike some plastics and metals, cork doesn’t release chemicals that could negatively impact your health.
Natural cork is particularly safe for wine, as it doesn’t interact with or compromise the drink’s quality.
When enjoying a bottle of wine, you want it to taste its best. Natural cork provides the optimal seal – maintaining freshness and reducing the chance of any unwanted flavours. The classic, refined look is an additional bonus, enhancing the bottle’s overall appeal.
#1 ELEGANT AND REFINED APPEARANCE
When selecting a bottle of wine, every aspect is important – including the experience of opening it. A cork stopper exudes luxury, without being over-the-top.
Each cork stopper is unique in its texture – nature doesn’t replicate. This provides every bottle with a personalised feel. It's a small detail, but true wine lovers will notice and appreciate it.
#2 NATURAL WITHOUT PLASTIC
Choosing natural cork means embracing nature, free from artificial elements. The cork comes directly from the bark of the cork oak, a tree that lives for many years, offering its bark generously. It’s quite accurate to say that wine cork stoppers literally come from trees!
No plastics and no chemical additives. Just nature offering a perfect closure for your wine. Cork stoppers are a small, yet significant, choice that shows you care about the environment without compromising on quality.
#3 PERFECT SEALING
Natural cork excels at keeping your wine in its best condition. It fits snugly in the bottleneck, providing a strong barrier against unwanted oxidation.
It preserves your wine's most cherished flavours and aromas, keeping them fresh for longer. Every bottle you open will meet your expectations – with no disappointments!
#4 CHEAP STOPPERS VS NATURAL CORK
The difference between cheaper synthetic stoppers and natural cork is easily noticeable. Particularly for quality still wines.
For instance, cheaper plastic stoppers cause wines to lose freshness faster. Within just a few days of storage, the flavours and aromas can deteriorate. Natural cork, on the other hand, maintains an ideal seal and allows the wine to mature in the right conditions. Even after long periods, the wine remains at its best.
Synthetic stoppers may also accelerate oxidation, which degrades the wine’s quality. Natural cork, with its porous structure, permits controlled wine breathing, preserving the aroma and taste over time.
#5 SAFE TCA CONTENT
If you're concerned about unpleasant flavour contamination, don’t worry. Our cork stoppers have reduced TCA to a safe level.
This allows you to enjoy your wine exactly as it should be – free from interference, just pure taste and aroma. With these corks, every bottle is a safe bet, with no unexpected flavours in your glass.
#6 A CLOSURE WITH HERITAGE
When you open a wine bottle sealed with natural cork, you’re embracing a centuries-old tradition. Natural cork has been trusted by wine masters for generations due to its effectiveness in preserving wine.
Each bottle opening connects you to history; a traditional cork allows wine to mature just as it has for hundreds of years. It doesn’t just seal the bottle, it preserves the legacy of winemaking.
