We reckon you may have a few queries, so let us shed some light.

HOW SHOULD I FIT CORK WALL TILES?

If you plan on decorating a wall with cork, you’ll need a superb adhesive made specifically for the job. We recommend >Wakol D-3540. While other wood glues might do the trick, results can vary, and we wouldn’t be able to guarantee them. Having worked extensively with cork over the years and tested countless adhesives, we found that Wakol D-3540 stands out as the top performer, so we can vouch for its reliability.

  1. You’ll use roughly 150–250 g/m² of adhesive in total. Apply it to both the wall and the reverse side of each cork tile. Make sure you use a short-pile velour roller so the coat is even and free from clumps.

  2. Wait until the adhesive appears transparent on both the tiles and the wall before bonding them.

  3. Once ready, gently press the tiles onto the wall.

  4. Finally, let the adhesive do its job! Wakol D-3540 needs about 24 hours to fully secure the decorative cork to the surface.

If you’re after something even simpler, opt for decorative cork with a self-adhesive backing. Bear in mind that this option only works well on smooth, flat, clean, and dust-free surfaces (like plasterboard or furniture).

WHAT SHOULD I REMEMBER BEFORE INSTALLING CORK PANELS ON A WALL?

Transport and store cork wall tiles in a flat position to avoid any damage. Also, let the tiles acclimatise for 72 hours in the room where you’ll be installing them before you begin. This helps prevent any potential issues like peeling or crumbling later on.

DO CORK WALL COVERINGS OFFER INSULATION?

They certainly do. Decorative cork provides a cosy layer to help warm up chilly walls and reduce annoying echoes. In addition, a cork finish can make any space feel more inviting compared to a room clad in ceramic tiles, for example.

HOW DO I CLEAN CORK WALL COVERINGS?

Giving cork tiles a clean is extremely straightforward. A slightly damp cloth or a soft-bristled brush will handle everyday marks. For more stubborn stains, try a gentle cleaner, such as a mild washing-up liquid solution.

Decorative cork on the wall isn’t just about good looks – it also provides excellent protection for your home. You needn’t worry about damp or mould, because cork naturally repels water. And if you’re longing for some peace and quiet, the material helps muffle ambient noise, giving you a calmer environment whenever you desire.

But that’s not all! By installing cork wall coverings, you’re not only adding style to your home but also making a positive choice for the environment. Cork is a renewable resource: after being harvested, the cork oak replenishes its bark every 9 to 12 years with no harm to the tree itself. So your design decisions really can help reduce your carbon footprint – in fact, each cork stopper can boast a carbon footprint of -276 g!
