You probably have a few questions, so we’ve prepared the answers for you.
CAN I APPLY CORK WALLPAPER DIRECTLY TO THE WALL?
Yes, just make sure the wall is clean, dry, and smooth. This is important because it helps the adhesive bond well with the wallpaper. If the wall isn’t properly prepared, the wallpaper may peel off and create uneven surfaces.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE CORK WALLPAPER?
The Estela cork wallpaper measures 8 metres in length, 0.5 metre in width, and 2 mm in thickness.
HOW MUCH AREA DOES ONE ROLL COVER?
One roll of wallpaper covers an area of 4 m².
WHAT ADHESIVE SHOULD I USE FOR INSTALLATION?
It’s best to use Wakol D-3540 cork adhesive. On average, you’ll need about 150-250 g of adhesive per 1 m².
A 0.8 kg container will cover around 4 m², which is approximately one roll of wallpaper. A 2.5 kg container will cover about 12.5 m², or roughly three rolls. These are approximate values, as the exact amount of adhesive will depend on your specific application during installation.
HOW DO I CUT CORK WALLPAPER?
It’s best to cut the wallpaper using our knife for cork. Make sure to lay the wallpaper on a flat surface while cutting. Ensure the knife is sharp; otherwise, natural cork may fray.
DO I NEED TO ACCLIMATISE THE CORK ROLL BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Yes, it’s essential to acclimatise the cork roll for 72 hours. Simply place the roll in the room where you plan to install it, allowing it to adjust to the temperature and humidity.
Skipping this step can lead to the wallpaper shrinking or expanding after installation, causing it to peel off or warp on the wall.
HOW DO I PREPARE THE WALL BEFORE INSTALLATION?
Before you start, make sure the wall is clean, dry, and smooth. Remove any old wallpaper and paint, and fill in any holes or cracks with filler.
CAN CORK ROLLS BE INSTALLED ON UNEVEN WALLS?
No, cork wallpaper should only be installed on smooth and even walls. If the wall is uneven, the wallpaper won’t adhere properly. As a result, it may peel off, and the unevenness will be very noticeable.
DO I NEED SPECIAL TOOLS FOR INSTALLATION?
No, all you need is a paint roller and basic tools. For convenience, you can use our cork installation tool kit.
WILL THE JOINS BETWEEN ROLLS BE VISIBLE AFTER INSTALLING THE WALLPAPER?
The joins may be visible, but this can be minimised. It’s important to align the sections of wallpaper properly during installation and ensure natural cork acclimatises in the room for 72 hours before installation. This allows natural cork to adjust to the room conditions, making the joins less noticeable.
DOES CORK WALLPAPER INSULATE AND SOUNDPROOF WALLS?
A 2 mm thick cork roll on the wall can help warm up and soundproof a room. However, it’s not primarily designed as an insulating material.
If insulation is your main concern, consider using thicker cork rolls or expanded cork.
CAN CORK WALLPAPER BE PAINTED?
Yes, it can. It’s best to use paints for natural cork.
CAN NATURAL CORK WARP DUE TO CHANGES IN TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY?
Yes, cork wallpaper can warp because cork is a natural material that reacts to changes in temperature and humidity. That’s why it’s important to acclimatise the wallpaper in the room for 72 hours before installation and to maintain stable conditions in the room afterward.
HOW DO I CLEAN CORK WALLPAPER AFTER INSTALLATION?
It’s best to clean natural cork with a dry microfiber cloth or a soft-bristle duster to remove dust. For stains, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, but avoid excessive moisture. It’s important not to use harsh chemical cleaners, as they can damage natural cork.
DOES NATURAL CORK HAVE A SCENT?
Yes, cork has a natural, wood-like scent that may be slightly noticeable after installation. Especially in cities where access to fresh air is limited, having a touch of nature indoors can be a great solution. It’s another feature of natural cork worth keeping in mind.
Planning to refresh your interior but don’t have the time or desire for constant touch-ups? It’s hard to find a material that ticks all the boxes – durability, aesthetics, eco-friendliness, and easy maintenance. But we found it – cork wallpaper. And most importantly, it’s a choice that lasts for years!
#1 CORK WALLPAPER: NATURAL CHARM
Nature is always in style (especially now) — with cork wallpaper, you don’t have to worry about it quickly losing its appeal. Best of all, you can have fun with the design: cover all the walls or just one. It’s up to you!
Estela has a unique, organic texture that’s hard to find elsewhere. It’s soft and warm to the touch, adding a cosy feel to your home. And that natural, brown colour — it practically goes with everything!
#2 CLEAN, HEALTHY, AND SAFE
Natural cork not only looks great, but it also doesn’t attract dust and dirt. It’s the perfect solution for people with allergies or simply those who want a cleaner, healthier living space.
Additionally, it’s hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and doesn’t release harmful chemicals. It’s also resistant to mould and mildew, so you can rest easy knowing it’s safe for you and your loved ones.
#3 CORK PROTECTS YOUR WALLS
Natural cork effectively shields your walls from scratches and other damage. You won’t have to worry about marks from children’s toys, moving furniture, or everyday use.
Natural cork helps your walls stay looking new for longer. It’s a simple way to enjoy peace of mind and a beautiful yet practical interior every day!
#4 LONG-LASTING MATERIAL FOR YEARS
With proper care, cork wallpaper can last up to 10-20 years. That’s a big difference compared to paint and traditional wallpaper, which often need to be replaced after 2-3 years.
Natural cork is a simple way to achieve a durable and hassle-free finish that will stay with you for a long time.
#5 NATURE TAKES THE LEAD
Natural cork is one of the most eco-friendly materials on the planet. Interestingly, harvesting cork doesn’t involve cutting down trees — the bark of the cork oak is gently collected every 9 years, and the tree continues to grow. It even absorbs up to 5 times more CO2 than other trees!
So, by choosing Estela cork wallpaper, you’re doing something good not only for your interior but also for the planet. It’s a simple way to live in harmony with nature without compromising on style. As you can see, you can have both!
