Have some questions? We're here to provide clear, helpful answers.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FINE, MEDIUM AND COARSE-GRAINED CORK SHEETS?

Fine-grain cork sheets offer a smooth, clean surface and are known for their flexibility and resistance to crumbling. If you're after a material that cuts cleanly and shapes well, fine cork is an excellent option. It’s widely used for high-end promotional items, precision gaskets, drink coasters and footwear inserts. Thanks to its elegant finish, it's also ideal for wall-mounted decorative panels.

Medium-grain cork is a popular choice for noticeboards, display boards and informational partitions. It’s especially practical in offices, schools, and public spaces where messages or documents need to be pinned up regularly.

Coarse-grain cork is perfect when acoustic or thermal insulation is required. Use it on ceilings or walls to reduce external noise and maintain a comfortable indoor environment.

WHAT THICKNESS SHOULD I GO FOR IN FINE-GRAINED CORK?

  • 0.8 to 3 mm: Best for promotional giveaways, coasters and tableware protectors.

  • 2 to 5 mm: Excellent for industrial use, such as cork or cork-rubber gaskets, and automotive sealing applications.

  • 5 to 10 mm: Suitable for footwear components including heel lifts, insoles, and cushioned supports.

  • 12 to 25 mm: Ideal if you require insulation with a neat surface finish – often used in interior fit-outs.

  • 50 to 150 mm: Recommended for projects where maximum insulation is key – e.g. floors, basements, loft conversions.

CAN CORK BE USED ON FLOORS OR AS AN UNDERLAY?

Yes – cork is a highly effective floor covering and underlayment. Whether as a full cork floor or as a support layer beneath another material, it provides natural warmth, noise reduction and a soft walking surface. Great for bedrooms, studies and children's playrooms.

ARE SELF-ADHESIVE CORK SHEETS AN OPTION?

They certainly are. We offer fine-grain cork sheets in a convenient self-adhesive format — just peel off the backing and stick into place. It’s a quick and tidy solution, with no extra tools or glue required.

Before installation, make sure you:

#1 Allow the cork to acclimatise for at least 72 hours in the space where it will be fitted. This helps prevent warping or detachment due to temperature or humidity changes.

#2 Clean the surface and ensure it is smooth and dust-free — this ensures the adhesive sticks properly and lasts.

IS CORK MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER ALTERNATIVES?

Although cork can carry a slightly higher upfront cost, it’s an economical long-term solution.

Compared to materials like polystyrene, cork offers improved insulation, durability and a much lower environmental impact. It's also naturally antistatic and hypoallergenic — and doesn’t need replacing as often. In other words, it saves both time and money in the long run.

WHICH IS BETTER: CORK ROLLS OR SHEETS?

For large surfaces, a roll of cork offers seamless coverage and quicker installation. However, cork sheets lie flat straight away, making them a better choice for smaller areas or more detailed work — especially where precision matters.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO CUT FINE-GRAIN CORK?

Fine cork is very easy to work with and tends not to fray. To get the cleanest results, use a sharp craft knife or a specialised cork cutter. Be sure to cut on a firm surface and take your time for precision.

CAN CORK PANELS BE USED ON CEILINGS?

Yes, they can. Due to their lightweight nature, cork panels are well-suited for ceiling installations. Just make sure they’re properly secured to prevent any risk of falling.

HOW DO YOU APPLY CORK TO A WALL?

Fitting cork panels to a wall is a relatively straightforward process that doesn’t require specialised tools or expertise.

  • Start by cleaning the wall surface to remove dust, grease or debris. This ensures better adhesion. We recommend using Wakol D-3540 contact adhesive. You’ll require approximately 120g per tile. A 0.8 kg tub covers around 6 tiles, while a 2.5 kg tub is enough for up to 20 tiles.
  • Apply the adhesive to both the wall and the back of the cork using a roller with a short nap to ensure an even coating.
  • Wait until the glue becomes transparent – this is the sign it’s ready for bonding.
  • Gently press the cork onto the wall and smooth out any bubbles.
  • Allow it to cure for at least 24 hours for a firm hold.
  • Our complete tool kit provides everything you’ll need for a smooth installation process.

If preferred, high-quality wood adhesive or fast-bonding contact glue can also be used effectively.

IS FINE-GRAIN CORK SUITABLE FOR INTERIOR DOORS?

Yes, certainly. Fine-grain cork is an excellent choice for indoor doors, providing both a visual enhancement and an extra layer of protection.

CAN WALL-MOUNTED CORK BE PAINTED?

Absolutely. If you want to customise the colour of your cork panels, apply a base primer first. This helps reduce absorption and ensures an even finish.

Then use our specially designed cork paints for optimal coverage and long-lasting results. For best performance, apply at least two coats using the painting kit we offer.

WHAT MATERIALS CAN BE COMBINED WITH CORK?

Cork works well in combination with a variety of materials including paper, foam, cardboard, as well as wood, glass, metal and textiles. It’s a highly adaptable material suitable for creative and decorative projects alike.

IS CORK A GOOD CHOICE FOR HALLWAYS OR ENTRANCE AREAS?

Definitely. Cork performs very well in high-traffic areas like entrances or hallways thanks to its natural resilience.

In contrast to paint, wallpaper or ceramic tiles, cork adds warmth, comfort and sound-absorbing properties to the room.

Paint can fade or peel over time.

Wallpaper may lift in humid conditions and is tricky to replace.

Tiles are durable but often feel cold and uninviting.

Cork, however, retains its natural appeal and gracefully withstands exposure to light and daily use, with only minor visual change over time.

DO YOU OFFER LARGER SIZE OPTIONS?

Yes, we do. For larger projects, explore our selection of cork rolls. These are sold by the metre and can be cut to fit your exact requirements.

CAN FINE-GRAIN CORK BE USED AS A NOTICE BOARD?

If you intend to pin frequently, it’s better to use medium-grain cork, which handles pins more effectively. Fine-grain cork is better suited as a decorative top layer on an existing board.

IS CORK SUITABLE FOR GASKETS OR SEALS?

Yes, it is. Fine-grain cork is flexible and easy to cut, making it ideal for crafting custom seals or gaskets for various domestic applications.

CAN CORK BE USED IN MOIST ENVIRONMENTS SUCH AS BATHROOMS?

Yes, if properly applied. Cork contains suberin – a naturally occurring compound that makes it resistant to moisture and fungal growth. It is suitable for spaces with controlled humidity levels (40% to 60%), such as bathrooms or utility rooms.

HOW SHOULD CORK BE MAINTAINED AND HOW DURABLE IS IT?

Clean cork surfaces with a soft cloth and a mild, pH-balanced cleaner. Avoid harsh or abrasive chemicals. In humid areas, a water-based sealant designed for cork is advisable to enhance longevity.

With appropriate care, cork products can remain in excellent condition for many years.

Fine-grain cork panels are an excellent natural material for anyone looking to combine sustainability with comfort and aesthetic appeal. Simple to install, gentle to the touch, and suitable for a wide range of interiors – discover what cork can offer your home today.

why choosing natural cork is a smart decision in the UK

#1 OUR CORK PANELS STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD

Our fine-grain cork panels offer a level of quality that is rarely found in high street or DIY chain stores. We utilise premium-grade cork, a significant step above standard factory-produced sheets. The difference is clear: enhanced thermal and acoustic insulation alongside superior resilience. Built for longevity, these panels endure daily use with ease – making them a cost-effective solution that reduces the need for frequent replacements.

Every project has unique requirements, which is why we provide a comprehensive selection of cork panels in a variety of formats. Unlike conventional offerings with limited choice, our range caters for both personal and professional applications alike.

#2 EASY TO HANDLE AND PLEASANT TO WORK WITH

These cork panels are remarkably straightforward to work with – ideal whether you're an experienced craftsperson or just embarking on a creative journey. They cut cleanly, take paint and engraving beautifully, and are suitable for printing too. From stylish coasters and notice boards to bespoke décor and practical home accessories, the creative possibilities are extensive.

What’s more, they make excellent decorative wall coverings. Thanks to their smooth texture and natural elasticity, the panels are both attractive and highly functional – adding a warm, organic touch to any interior while withstanding everyday use.

#3 A TRULY ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY MATERIAL

Natural cork is not only a smart material from a practical perspective – it’s also incredibly eco-conscious. Harvested sustainably from cork oak trees, the bark regenerates every 9 to 12 years, allowing for continuous production without harming the tree. During this process, the bark can absorb up to five times the amount of CO2 compared to other trees – giving cork a rare carbon-negative footprint.

#4 FINE-GRAIN CORK: THE PERFECT BASE FOR PRINT

The ultra-smooth finish of our cork panels makes them particularly well suited for professional-grade printing. Whether it’s business cards, branded signs, or decorative artwork, the results are crisp, colourful, and long-lasting.

Thanks to the panel’s fine texture, ink adheres evenly and the print retains its quality over time – ensuring your designs remain vibrant and impactful for years to come.
