You probably have a few questions, so we’ve prepared the answers!

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FINE-, MEDIUM-, AND COARSE-GRAINED CORK SHEETS?

If you need a smooth, flexible material that's easy to cut, fine-grained cork is your best bet. It’s perfect for creating promotional gadgets, technical gaskets, coasters, and shoe insoles. It’s also ideal for decorative purposes.

Choose medium-grained cork boards if you're looking for a material for pinning boards. They’re slightly more textured than fine-grained cork, making them better suited for pinning.

Coarse-grained cork boards are the top choice for insulation. With a higher density, coarse-grained cork is ideal for industrial uses, such as machine insulation. However, if you’re after premium insulation with the highest performance, check out expanded cork.

SELF ADHESIVE CORK SHEETS OR STANDARD CORK BOARDS – WHICH SHOULD I CHOOSE?

Self-adhesive cork works like a stickerpeel off the backing and stick it to the wall. Keep in mind that it’s only suitable for smooth, flat, clean, and dust-free surfaces, such as plasterboard or furniture panels.

Standard cork boards without adhesive require a bit more effort to install, but they give you greater control over the material. You can cut and shape natural cork to fit your needs. If you enjoy DIY projects and want to create your own corkboard from scratch, standard boards give you complete freedom.

HOW TO INSTALL CORK BOARD SHEETS USING ADHESIVE?

You’ll need:

  • adhesive for natural cork (e.g., Wakol D-3540),
  • a short-nap velour roller,
  • a rubber mallet,
  • a damp cloth for removing excess adhesive.

Important! Allow the cork sheets to acclimate to the room where they’ll be installed for 72 hours before starting. This helps them adjust to the temperature and humidity.

  1. Prepare the surface: Ensure the wall is clean, dry, and smooth. Remove any dirt, dust, or grease to ensure the adhesive and cork sheets adhere properly.
  2. Apply the adhesive: Using a velour roller, apply the adhesive evenly to both the wall and the back of the cork sheets. Wait about 30 minutes for the adhesive to become transparent.
  3. Start the installation: Press the cork sheets firmly onto the wall, ensuring they are aligned evenly. Use a rubber mallet to gently secure the sheets in place.
  4. Clean up excess adhesive: If you notice any adhesive oozing out, remove it immediately with a damp cloth to avoid stains.

  5. Allow to dry: Let the adhesive fully cure for approximately 24 hours before using the cork surface.

HOW TO APPLY SELF ADHESIVE CORK SHEETS TO A WALL?

Applying self-adhesive cork boards is straightforward:

  1. Acclimate natural cork: Before installation, leave the cork panels in the room where they’ll be applied for 72 hours. This allows natural cork to adjust to the room's temperature and humidity, preventing shrinking, cracking, or peeling later on.
  2. Prepare the surface: Ensure the surface is smooth, flat, and clean. Self-adhesive cork is suitable only for well-prepared surfaces, such as plasterboard or furniture panels.
  3. Apply natural cork: Peel off the protective backing and press the cork sheet onto the surface. Press firmly and evenly to ensure it adheres properly.
